Easy to reach. Beautiful 360° view on a river delta and the Eyjafjallajökull vulcano. Duration: about one hour, depends on how long you will stay on top. No bathrooms.

Stóra Dímon is a small hill on the southern coast of Iceland, close to the village of Hvolsvöllur.

When you are driving on Road Number 1 toward Reykjavík, turn right on Road Number 250 shortly after Seljalandsfoss. The 250 is an unpaved road but can be driven on with a normal car.

There is a parking lot on the south side of the hill, where you can leave your car. From here, a small path leads to the top of Stóra Dímon; you can`t miss it. The hike isn't long, roughly 20 minutes to go up, but it's so steep that you are almost climbing. Be careful, particularly when it's wet or when you go there with children. From the top, you have an incredible view of the Krossá River, which creates a beautiful delta on the bottom of Stóra Dímon. Above the farm houses, which you can see on the other side of the river is the famous Eyjafjallajökull Volcano, which erupted 2010. When the weather is good you can even see the islands of Vestmannaeyjar on the coast.

Take a rest, have some lunch, and walk around here a little bit. Enjoy what nature offers you! This place is really an Icelandic secret. it looks so spectacular from the bottom, but I never could have imagined how beautiful it is on top!

Great Views On Top of Stóra Dímon Reviews

As you turn off the ring road, you leave most of the crowds behind at the near by waterfalls. When I was hiking up I past one local family on their way down and soon I was the only person for what felt like miles. Between the views and solitude this is a must do adventure.
