This beautiful hour long North Shore Oahu hike goes through a jungle and a pine forest and leads to painted pillboxes and a view.
The trailhead for this hike is at the parking lot across from Pipeline Beach. The trail begins flat, and soon starts to create an incline. If the trail is muddy, use the tree roots for balance. Towards the end of the slippery part, there is a rope to lead you up a set of stairs, that are built into the side of the mountain. After the stairs, the trail levels off again to hard packed dirt. The area changes to a norfolk pine forest rather than a rainforest, and you get a really awesome breeze. After hiking the pine forest for a while, you get a glimpse of the view. You can see most of the coastline of the North Shore. If you come in the winter, the waves are really big, and you can spot surfers. There are two pillboxes, and they are relatively close together. The second one is my favorite, because of the peace sign painting! On quiet days, it is a good place for mediation or yoga.
Warning: This trail can get very muddy and slippery, so I would recommend not bringing pets or hiking it in slippers.
