Long remote beaches invite for a pleasant stroll along the coastline, camping optional.
I suggest to park the car next to the Hyatt Hotel. Drive on Poipu Road and coming from the west, turn right after you pass the hotel. There is a little parking spot.
Grab your bag and start walking down to the beach. Firstly you will get to Shipwreck Beach, sometimes people cliff jump into the ocean from here.Start walking to the left and you will soon cross the golf course before getting to the sand cliffs that got shaped by the waves clashing against them.
After 2.5 miles you arrive at Gillin's beach where you will need to cross a stream. From here onwards you can walk along the beach until you get to Kawailoa Bay. Kitesurfing is popular in this area and if you're not an expert yourself, it is interesting to watch!
You can continue to stroll all the way over the ridge to Kipu Kai beach, a nice walk with impressive little versions of the Spouting Horn, but the beach itself carried a lot of trash when I arrived.
If you find a good spot, bring your tent with you and enjoy the sound of the waves throughout the entire night. Be careful when heading into the water and make sure you are aware of the current that can be very powerful.
Once you get back to the car, I suggest you head to the Koloa Fish Market for some fresh Poke!
