Incredible vistas of Berchtesgaden National Park in the Bavarian Alps

The Jennerbahn (an enclosed lift) will take you almost to the top of Mount Jenner. Buy a ticket at the booth at the entrance. It costs 32 euro, which is steep, however the views are incredible and it's very enjoyable to have lunch up there (there's a cafe). The alternative is to climb it from the bottom (6,148'), which we did see a few people doing.

The lift fits 2 people sitting next to each other, and the top part of the car is see through (kind of like those trams you take in zoos or amusement parks, except it's not open, just see through plastic/glass). There's also a little window in front of you that opens a little bit to let in fresh air. I am pretty claustrophobic and was worried about this, however the amazing scenery around was enough of a distraction to keep me from getting too claustrophobic. The ride takes about 30 minutes to get all the way to the top.

Once you get to the top, it's another 10 minute, 500' (elevation) walk up to the summit. The views from here are other-worldly. Below you, you see Kongissee, a long, narrow lake (which you can take a boat ride on) and across the lake from you, you will see the Watzmann, the third highest mountain in Germany at 8,901'.

Back at the level where the lift lets you off, there is a dining area that serves all sorts of German food and beer with outdoor tables. We had some wursts filled with cheese and wrapped in bacon (we would have deserved these more if we'd started at the bottom), some pretzels, and German beer.

Total time: Give yourself at least 2 hours to do this, from when you get on the lift to when you get off, so that you have at least at hour to enjoy the top
