This trail provides breathtaking views for such little work! We loved every minute of it and especially enjoyed the views at the end. The notch ladder is a bit steep (for those afraid of heights). It felt like we were walking on a moonscape. This is not to miss while in the Badlands, and shouldn't be considering how little time it requires.

This was surprisingly easy and steady for being the tallest peak in SD/ east of the Rockies. The trail gained elevation very subtly and provided fantastic views almost the entire way. Once at the top, we were able to see for miles and miles. Lots of area to get away from hiking groups and sit down for a beer. We even had service up top and facetimed my mom to show her the view! Loved it! It was the top of my list and it did not disappoint!

Really steep, but short, hike up from Little Devil's Tower trail. We came the opposite direction (from Harney/Black Elk Peak), but were able to find it due to the well worn side trail. Great view from the top and such a nice set up for getting creative and pensive! It reminded me of Robert Service's "Spell of the Yukon," which I left an excerpt of up there. One of our favorite little hidden spots!

This was a great way to wrap up our week in the Black Hills/Custer State Park area! Drive Foster Gulch Rd all the way to the end and park your car. The hike was a bit of a scramble, but you'll find garnets and staurolite embedded in the rocks along the way! Once you get down to the end of the trail, you'll find a couple of pools before you hit the water falling into Hippie Hole. The area is perfect for sunning on the rocks and for the more adventurous and daring: cliff jumping! On the right side is a sketchy rope and vertical rock face to climb back up OR you can go to the left side and climb the rocks back up (also sketchy... be careful where you step and maybe bring a partner to have your back). We made new friends there and it was overall one of our favorite spots in the state.
