This is one of the most stunning, scenic mountain bike rides in all of America, possibly the world. Enjoy endless views of alpine meadows filled with colorful wildflowers, meandering streams and Colorado's, gorgeous, Elk Mountains.

From Crested Butte, drive out of town and up Gothic Rd. (Rd. 317) toward Schofield Pass until you reach the parking areas. The dirt road will get quite bumpy right before parking but most 2WD cars should be fine.

From here you will have the choice to keep driving up the pass and shuttle your group up and down to enjoy only the downhill segment of the ride; or you can choose to make the ride a loop (this is my recommendation) by parking at the bottom and biking the accent to the top of Schofield Pass.

Once at the top of Schofield Pass the singletrack portion of the ride begins. The trail leads you into the woods for several short, but steep accents. These more technical than the climb up the pass but this last uphill section is not nearly as long. Once out of the trees you enter some of the most lush, colorful, beautiful alpine meadows Colorado has to offer.

Finally the singletrack begins to level out and you have a 45-75 minute downhill ahead of you. Your views the entire way down are unobscured by trees as you cut across this massive peak through flower meadows. Zig zagging your way down slowly you finally enter the lush, beautiful aspen forests and wind your way through them until you reach your car!

Aside from biking, this area is absolutely stunning for camping and it is one of the best places for trout fishing in Colorado. There is a wildflower festival held here every July and that is a great time to come do the ride and see all of the amazing native flowers that are exclusive to this area of Colorado.
