The Hanging Lake does not disappoint, rewarding hikers with a stunning waterfall of vibrant colors.

Hanging Lake is located just east of Glenwood Springs, off of I-70. Although a short hike, the trail is steep and uneven at certain points so a good pair of shoes or hiking boots is recommended. A paved path near the Colorado River connects the parking lot to the trailhead for the hike. Once off the paved path and beginning the climb, one is greeted by a stream that flows alongside the trail for most of the hike, providing picturesque views and beautiful noise. At about the mile point, a steep stair case along the rock face is the last portion of the climb before the trail opens up to the beautiful lake. Hanging Lake is a stunning natural wonder... soak it all in by finding a place on a bench along the boardwalk or standing along the handrail. Take all the pictures you want, but be sure not to touch the water because the ecosystem is very fragile. As always, any trash you produce along the way be sure to pack out with you!
