Camp and Fish at Eleven Mile Canyon
Lake George, Colorado
Description
Added by Emily Kent
Eleven Mile Canyon is an unexpected place of incredible beauty with fantastic trout fishing out of the South Platte River year round.
Located below the dam of the Eleven Mile Reservoir, Eleven Mile Canyon is a scenic spot for camping, fishing, hiking and climbing. There are four different campgrounds to choose from (Cove, Riverside, Spillway and Springer), though only one campground remains open during the off season.
Getting there:
From Lake George, CO at US Highway 24 take County Road 96 south. After two miles veer right at the fork to arrive at the entrance station. There is a $6 day fee per vehicle, and if camping overnight, reservations can be made ahead of time here: Recreation.gov
The Canyon has lush green tree canopies and large boulders throughout which makes it surprisingly picturesque. If you're a trout fisherman or woman, you'll likely have great luck on the South Platte which seems to hold significantly more fish than the other rivers in this region. For the fly-fishermen and women, this river is paradise. It's a fantastic river to be on with a dry-fly (my favorite way to fly-fish!) early in the season, as soon as February. Great hatches are happening throughout the season including midges, blue-winged olives, mayflies, stoneflies and caddis flies.
Enjoy the area by canoeing, climbing, and hiking as well, and take in the quiet calm of the river as the sun goes down.

Camp and Fish at Eleven Mile Canyon Reviews
A spectacular place to take it all in and do some fly fishing. If you enjoy sight fishing for rainbow, browns, cuttbow trout, this place will not disappoint. Pack a lunch and maybe dinner. You won't want to leave, and the closest restaurant is about 30 minutes drive from the entrance. Don't forget to bring $5 and $1s for entrance fee and a pen if you get there early to fill out the envelope.

I grew up camping and fishing here but it never gets old. The canyon and river are beautiful.
