Hike Rice Lake
North Vancouver, British Columbia
Description
Added by Bryce Evans
Distance: 1 km (0.6 mile) roundtrip. Duration: 2 hours. Minimal elevation gain. Calm, quiet lake with secluded areas. Hauntingly beautiful when fog rolls in. Wildlife all around: herons, ducks, the occasional eagle.
Walk down Rice Lake Road, cross the bridge, and follow the pathway towards the park ranger buildings. Past the buildings you will find a gravel path going into the trees, which will take you towards a fence beside the trail. Continue on the path towards the lake, while the trees and moss along the way provide natural eye candy and fresh air.
When you arrive at the lake, enjoy walking around the shore where you will find lots of spots to sit and take in the view (or the wonderfully quiet atmosphere). There is a fishing dock that goes out onto the water for a different perspective, and a few spaces off the main trail to enjoy lunch away from everyone else on the trail.
If you're lucky enough to have fog roll in that day, you will be in for a visual treat. The atmosphere constantly changes as the fog dances around the lake. Enjoy!
Getting there: You can take the #228 bus route near the end of the line at Dempsey and Lynn Valley Road, where you will find a trail map across from the General Store. If you are driving, there is a gravel parking lot at the end of Lillooet Road.
