Hike Evans Peak in Golden Ears Provincial Park
Maple Ridge, British Columbia
Description
Added by Dan Duerden
Stunning views north towards Garibaldi Provincial Park. Views of often-photographed Alouette Lake from elevation. 12km round-trip and about 1000m of elevation gain. Option to head up Alouette Mountain. A fantastic less-travelled option compared to many others in the area and just as accessible.
Start on the West Canyon Trail and then take a left up the View Point Trail. Along the View Point trail you’ll cross a creek. There’s a beautiful waterfall and natural hammock (a log) which is great for a quick snack spot or photo.
A few hundred meters past the creek, 1.5km from the start of the trail, there will be a sign on the right side of the trail for Evans Peak and Alouette mountain. This is where the real climb begins, it’s a steep trail but very well marked. There’s an unmarked viewpoint at the halfway point, in terms of elevation gain, with slightly obscured views of Alouette Lake.
Under 1km past the viewpoint there’s a signed fork for Alouette mountain to the left, and right for Evans Peak. After this you’ll continue along a ridge before your final ascent which has a couple areas close to drop-offs and ropes in two areas to aid in the climb.
Enjoy the view!
