Description

Added by Natalie Matthews

Hike up the Kimberley Alpine Resort for a specatular veiw of the Rocky Mountains and East Kootenay Valley.

Starting midway up the mountain enter through the brown gated fence to the right of the parking lot. The trail head immediately starts up the mountain enclosed by tall trees and huckleberry bushes. The first quarter of the hike is steep and follows narrow and sharp switchbacks up a dusty red rock face. From here as you continue up the mountain you will run into switchbacks where you will immediately be able to take in the views of the valley on your way up to the summit. Each piece of the hike is individual and ranges in elevation. You will most likely run into huckleberry pickers in the lower to mid mountain during picking season. Due to the vast amount of wild raspberry and huckleberry bushes it is common occurrence to have grizzly bear warnings during the spring and summer months. As you near the top of the mountain you will be able to view the NorthStar chair. This is the final destination in the ~ 1 hr hike. The top of the mountain offers panoramic views of Fisher Peak and the Steeples across the valley. Picnic benches can be used just a short walk from the summit.
