Description

Mount Wilcox provides absolutely stunning views of Athabasca glacier and surrounding glaciers and peaks. The Icefields Parkway is known for its surreal scenery and this hike certainly displays exactly that.

The trail for Mount Wilcox starts at Wilcox Campground. From the campground you follow the trail up Wilcox pass. It is steep right away, but only for about 15 minutes. After gaining elevation fairly quickly, the trail levels off and you are immediately rewarded with views over the Athabasca glacier, Mt. Athabasca, Nigel Peak, and of course Mount Wilcox. The pass is beautiful and has wild flowers in the summer. With Mount Wilcox ahead, you want to gain the ridge. Look for the trail that snakes its way up through the scree. Follow this trail and shortly your hike will turn into a scramble. The trail for the scramble is marked with cairns and is fairly clear all the way up! The views of the surrounding glaciers are absolutely unbelievable. Descend down the same way. Roundtrip time 4-5 hours.
