Unmarked TrailHidden BeachNo People

Last weekend I finally went to Tofino. After living in BC for almost 11 years, and never going to the edge of the world, country, continent, I finally did it. So what are my thoughts? WAVES, big fucking WAVES. Amazing waves, waves after waves after waves. Seriously, it’s not like a tropical place where you might get one big wave, and then 2 seconds later, another, and you have to wait for that perfect big wave. No this place has hundreds of waves rushing one after the other, non-stop. I give huge props to the surfers who have giant fucking balls to go in there, and those newbies who don’t know what they’re doing risking their lives to learn to surf in the cold rainy weather. I applaud you.We did a couple of hikes, one of which got destroyed after a storm so it wasn’t clearly marked. This one was also pretty mysterious, we didn’t know what to expect at the end, but we hoped it was a private beach, and boy was it every so fucking private and long. So many logs and treasures got washed up from the ocean on this beach and since it’s not maintained, all that stuff just stays there: logs, treasure chests, gold balls, underwear. It’s one of those places where you both sit and stare at the view and you don’t have to say anything, you just know you’ve hit a gold mine or in this case, long beach, the private side that no one knows about. If you’re going to do any trail in Tofino, do this one, seriously, we didn’t encounter one person, it was off the highway, and it was “alice in the wonderland” beautiful. The co-ordinates on a map roughly for the start of the trail are: “49.005379, -125.616744“. Basically 10-15 minute out of Tofino, before heading back to Port Alberni, keep looking onto your right to find an unmarked road. It will have two concrete blocks to close the road so you can’t drive inside, you’ll have to park your car on the side of the highway. Follow the trail, you’ll reach a fork that will have split, don’t follow the one with pink ribbons but instead go to your right, and take that path, it’s only approximately 30 minute walk. No steep hikes anywhere, it’s just muddy and you’ll hit a few trees you’ll have to jump over or duck under. DO ITTTT!
