Johnson Lake Resort, aka camp site rests on a pond not on the lake, it is opposite of the clear side of the lake.
There is a BC camp site on the clear side of the lake with only 8 spots, and yes it is packed and booked up each weekend, you will not find a spot to camp on the lake. You can however find a spot to camp nearby, if you look hard enough. We saw a few flat patches of grass where you can set yourself up comfortably.
The water is 60 F, in other words, it is pretty damn cold, unless you’ve chugged a few beers, don’t expect to be floating around.
People kayak, paddle board, or hang out on rubber swans.
There are TONS of bugs that come to play around noon near the shore, so expect to be dazzled with these amazing tiny creatures (not).
There are two bears near the campsite that like to fish near the creek.
The road to get there is bumpy and there are a lot of potholes so save yourself a headache and don’t drive a small car like I did.
From Johnson Lake Resort to the part of the lake that is clear is an extra 30 minutes on top of the 5-hour drive (from Vancouver)
