Widgeon Creek is a beautiful little secret spot in BC. Easily accessible and wildly beautiful, this trip can be done in an afternoon or overnight.
Start your day off at the Pitt Lake boat launch. There is a canoe rental place there which is open all day. Rentals are $55 for day canoe rental (can fit up to 4 adults in a canoe plus food/gear) and $85 for overnight. MAKE SURE TO BRING CASH as the rental place does not accept debit or credit - there is no deposit on the boats. From here, launch your boat and head slightly NorthWest across the lake. You will see an opening from the boat launch to Widgeon Creek. Once in the creek area, follow it along until the campsite (well marked path). There are many little beach areas when the water level is low you can stop at for a break, though the campsite is only about a 1.5 hours paddle from the boat launch.
At the campsite, pull your boat up and have some lunch or set up camp. From here, you can head to Widgeon Falls which are about 20-30 minutes up from the campsite. Turn right off the shore into the camping area and follow the easy trail along to reach the falls. Continuing down the creek past the campsite is also an option and highly recommended - the water trail becomes narrower and more wild looking. The water here is perfect for swimming.
If canoeing for the afternoon, make sure to have the boats back by sunset. Enjoy!
