This trail lets you explore the beauty of Algonquin park. Two main lookouts and a waterfall greet you on your way to your campsite on the waterfront of a placid lake.
Starting at the trailhead ,highland trail, near the mew lake campground (Mew Lake camp ground is where you sign in) hike for around 30 minutes before reaching the first lookout. Then hike for another 40 minutes before coming across a little waterfall in the river, complete with a picnic area and benches. The trail is completely straight until you reach the fork that determines which way around the lake you would like to go. On our trip we went right to west provoking and shortly after made it to the campsite to make camp.
The next day we hike back towards the fork and went towards east provoking to the second lookout. The lookout trail entrance is on the left hand side, and is a little hidden so be sure you don’t pass it by.
Note: The Highland trail is an out-and-back trail that connects to a 10km loop trail that goes around provoking lake.
Note 2: If looking for the specifics of the campground in the photos, it is located in west provoking in the second cluster of campsites. Privy boxes are on site.
