Description

Added by Kaily Tischler

Enjoy the serenity of being surrounded by jagged peaks, ice fields, cold rushing streams, waterfalls and bubblegum blue lakes.

Joffre Lakes is one of BC's most beautiful hikes. The parking lot just off of Duffey Lake Road is accessible for all vehicles. Minutes from the trail head, take a left at the fork and you will reach the first of three lakes in a matter of minutes. The view of the glacier sitting high above the mountains and the reflection on the lake will take your breath away. Do not stop now, the best is yet to come. Head back to the fork and continue along a steep ascent to Middle Joffre Lakes. On arrival, Follow the trail as it weaves across the shoreline and back into the trees. Make your way up the steep rocks and switchbacks. Shortly after passing the middle lake, you will approach the roaring rapids of a magnificent waterfall on your right. From here, its just a short ascent to Upper Joffre Lake. For hikers interested in back country camping, check out the campground at the end of the lake. Once at the campground, follow the unmarked trail towards the waterfall that empties into the lake. At this point you will find yourself at the base of the Matier Glacier. Enjoy! Please, please respect the vegetation and wildlife at the lakes by staying on the trail.

Directions: Follow Route 99 north through Pemberton towards the Duffy. As you pass through Mount Currie, follow the signs toward Lillooet. Once you reach Lillooet lake, the road turns uphill and winds steeply for the first few km's and continues to gain over 1000m elev. Joffre Lake is well signed on the highway, and you will reach the trialhead about 20 minutes after driving on the Duffy proper
