Off the beaten pathGreat place to spend a couple nightsAmazing alpine vistasrelatively straightforward routefindingyou're in the alpine for most of iteasy hike in to campsitepristine alpinepossibility to additionally hit Mt Shadowfax in the same day

Access to the trailhead: Drive north past Pemberton towards D'arcy. Left on Blackwater Rd heading towards Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park. At about 13km you'll see a sign for the park, turn right onto the forest service road here. If you're car has low clearance park just up from the turn off. Drive or hike 5km up this road til it ends. Left then right at the forks in the road. If unsure about crossing water bars park wherever safe and out of the way.

The trail climbs fairly steeply but quickly to Long Lake where the cabin is located on the far shore. It took us roughly an hour and a half from where we parked at the end of the road. I recommend heading here late on your first night to reach camp so you have the whole first day to reach the peaks.

The next day follow the creek up to another lake and skirt by it on the right hand side and scramble up to the saddle, to the right is Mt Gandalf. A short walk up to the peak and then follow the ridgeline to Mt Aragon. From there you can choose to follow the ridge further and then descend to the valley where you can approach Mt Shadowfax on you way back to camp. We didn't have time to do all 3 but it definitely is doable in one long day. We stayed another night to enjoy the fruits of our labour but it is a short hike out to the vehicle if parked at the trailhead.
