A few weeks into April and the sun is shining at full force so that means no excuses to not go and explore. I remember seeing photos of Joffre Lakes on instagram and wondering where these supernatural blue alpine lakes were. So when offer came up for an overnighter on Upper Joffre Lake the decision was easy. The trail up wasn’t very steep but to our surprise it was very very icy. None of us thought to bring microspikes so for a crew of 5 in overly joyful moods it just made for a much more fun and slippery adventure. For a few of us it was our first time hiking in the Whistler/Lillooet area, mostly due because the drive from Chilliwack is a bit lengthy. But the drive this time was well worth it. Only a few hundred feet from the parking lot is the first lake and it kept getting better from there. Just finished a below average ski season and still having the itch for some powder it didn’t make it easier for us seeing groups coming down with skis strapped to their packs and grins on there faces. Why didn’t we bring our skis! It also did not help that our final camp spot at the Upper Lake had a view of all there fresh ski lines on the Taylor/Tzil basin. The evening was peaceful to say the least. The crew spent a bit of time setting up camp on a little island on the East side of the lake. Didn’t take much time for Lucas and I who only had throw down our mats and sleeping bags under the stars. We avoid bring tents every chance we get! The wine was now chilled from the snow so we all relaxed around the fire until it was completely dark and it was time to get the cameras ready for some stars. The lake which was slushy earlier froze up perfectly so we could hang out on the ice and watch the stars slowly move above our heads. Quite a surreal night and overall an amazing trip.
