Indian Canyon West Fork Trail

The Indian Canyon West Fork Trail is a secluded 5.3-mile out-and-back trail located in the heart of the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation near Palm Springs, California. This desert oasis trail offers a unique hiking experience through a pristine palm canyon, following a year-round stream that supports one of Southern California's largest native California fan palm oases.

Beginning at the Trading Post visitor center in Indian Canyons, the trail meanders through stands of ancient California fan palms (Washingtonia filifera), with their distinctive natural "skirts" of dead fronds creating a dramatic visual against the stark canyon walls. The trail gains approximately 900 feet in elevation, offering a moderate hiking experience suitable for most skill levels.

The West Fork features multiple stream crossings, cool grottos, and several palm oases that provide welcome shade in the desert environment. Hikers can spot numerous desert wildlife species, including bighorn sheep, roadrunners, and various lizard species. During spring months, the canyon comes alive with wildflowers and blooming desert plants.
