Only an 1-2 hours outside of Melbourne, Cape Schanck and in particular hiking to the rockpools of Bushrangers Bay is a great day adventure, particularly in summer. The rockpools are picturesque, making great baths for swimming at low tide.

Starting off at the Cape Schanck carpark, the bushrangers bay trail is a well marked, easy walking track that winds along the southern coast of the peninsula and finishes at the stunning bushrangers bay. It starts directly from the carpark, on the side opposite the incoming road. Only 2.5km each way, (5km round trip), the hike is a perfect easy going day hike.

However, the real key to getting the most out of Bushrangers bay is knowing to continue walking when the hike seemingly ends. As the track opens onto the beach, it is seemingly over- with the nice beach good for a relax and a break. This is where most walkers turn around, having enjoyed their hike. Although this is pleasant enough, to reach the somewhat elusive rockpools of bushrangers bay, you must continue walking along the beach, all the way along until you reach a small inlet.

PLEASE NOTE: at high tide, crossing this inlet and accessing the rockpools can be extremely dangerous, with large waves frequently sweeping across the pools and surrounding rocks. They are best visited at low tide, when there is relatively little danger and greater access to a larger variety of pools.

Crossing the inlet onto the rocky outcrop will lead you to the rockpools- beautiful with crystal clear blue water perfect for a sunny day. Climbing along the rocks is also great fun and gives some sensational views.
