Rock Climb at Mount Magazine State Park

Paris, Arkansas

Description

Added by Zachary Heiliger

Climb the tallest mountain in Arkansas! Mount Magazine (Elevation: 2,753 ft) in the Ouachita Mountains provides excellent climbing opportunities with great exposure!

Mount Magazine offers excellent Sport & Trad climbs on quality Arkansas sandstone. The climbing walls vary in height to a maximum of 90 feet, with great exposure over the surrounding landscape. Climbs here range in difficulty from 5.6 to 5.12+. Consider purchasing "Climber's Guide to Mt. Magazine" by Kerry Allen.

From the parking lot, make your way West, past the Lodge to a climber's trail designated by a sign. Follow the trail down (<0.25 mile), scrambling at times to the base of the climbing area. The climbs are located right under the Lodge.

If you're feeling adventurous, climb the classic Right to Flight aka The Nose (5.9 Trad)! This great climb leads you out for great exposure where you are sure to feel the full effects the ‎2,435 ft prominence Mount Magazine has over the surrounding Arkansas River Valley!

Getting There: Mount Magazine is Southeast of Paris, Arkansas. Drive to the top of Mount Magazine via Hwy 309 Mt. Magazine Scenic Byway. Follow the signs for the Mount Magazine Lodge and Visitor Center. You will need to register at the Visitors Center before climbing. There is available parking near the 'Hang Glider' launch site.
