Climb at Sand Rock
Leesburg, Alabama
Description
Added by Josh & Michele
Sand Rock is a famous climbing hotspot in the Southern United States, containing bouldering, sport, and trad routes, with difficulties ranging from beginner to advanced level.
Sand Rock extends from the Shinbone Ridge, overlooking Lake Weiss. It is a beautiful area, rich with great boulders and caves to explore, with literally hundreds of boulder, sport, and trad routes to be climbed, many of which are already bolted. There are a wide variety of climbing difficulties, ranging from beginner to advanced level. Climbing at Sand Rock goes all the way back to the early 1970s, with many world famous routes having been made here.
It is also a great place for scrambling, spelunking (caving), hiking, and camping. There are plenty of campsites for tent and/or hammock camping located conveniently close to the bathrooms, pavilion, and climbing areas. Campsites along the tops of the cliffs are often subject to strong winds, so choose your campsite carefully. Firewood can be purchased at the park office along with other camping gear. The bathrooms next to the pavilion are clean and have running showers with hot water (great for cold nights!). The pavilion has covered tables and a charcoal grill that can be used, but you must provide your own charcoal. There is also a water spigot near the pavilion/bathroom area.

Climb at Sand Rock Reviews
If you live in the southern US, and you call yourself a climber, then you have at least heard of Sand Rock. I come here every year to climb once it gets cold out, and there's actually some cool caving here as well.
