Gorgeous photography opportunity. Amazing backdrop of the Tetons. Great opportunity to watch wildlife.
Schwabacher Landing is one of the most photographed and rewarding stops in Grand Teton National Park, known for its glassy reflections of the Teton Range in quiet beaver ponds along the Snake River. A short, flat walk makes it approachable for most visitors, while the scenery delivers big—towering peaks, wildlife sightings, and ever-changing light throughout the year.
Spring brings swelling waterways, fresh greenery, and snow-capped peaks, though trails can be muddy. Summer offers long days, lush vegetation, and frequent wildlife activity, making it a great time for casual visitors and families. Fall is a standout season with golden aspens, crisp air, and fewer crowds—ideal for photography and peaceful walks.
Winter is especially magical—but requires extra planning. Schwabacher Landing Road is closed to vehicles in winter, so access is by snowshoeing or cross-country skiing only. Most visitors park at the plowed area along Highway 89 and travel roughly 1–1.5 miles one way on snow-covered roads or packed tracks. The effort is well worth it: snow-draped cottonwoods, frozen ponds, and pastel alpenglow at sunrise create a serene, almost silent landscape that feels worlds away from summer crowds. Be prepared with proper winter gear, traction, and awareness of cold temperatures and changing conditions.
Sunrise is the most popular time to visit year-round for calm reflections and soft light on Mount Moran and the Cathedral Group, but Schwabacher Landing rewards visitors at any hour with its tranquil beauty. Whether you’re stopping in during peak summer or venturing out on skis in the dead of winter, this spot offers one of the most classic and memorable views in the Tetons—no matter the season.

Schwabacher Landing Reviews
What time is sunset in July? We are going to visit the area and would love to get beautiful pictures before the sun goes behind the mountains, and wait for the sunset itself.
As Christina says, this location has incredible views of the Tetons during sunrise and sunset. As a suggestion, follow the trail past the first pond and through some trees. You will find a great reflection of the Tetons in a beaver pond framed with some fir trees which makes for a great photo.
