The Hoh Rain Forest is one of the most unique landscapes I've found in the US. The best way to describe it is that it looks like where Oscar the Grouch comes from. The huge trees are covered in thick moss that drapes downward, and giant ferns cover the forrest floor.
Places like this are often photographed during the day, and one of the things I strive to do in photography is to find a different way to shoot something that many people have already photographed. Usually for me, that means photographing it at night. All it requires is a sturdy tripod, (I use a Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod that absorbs any vibrations) and a good headlamp (I like my Princeton Tec). I set the exposure to about 30 seconds, and then use that time running around the forest side lighting and backlighting the trees, moss, ferns, and model.
