Description

Added by Jasmin Elaine

This one of a kind hike leads to the towering Big Four Mountain. Awaiting at the base of the mountain lies the big four ice caves. As with any adventure, have fun, but always be aware of your surroundings. Though the ice caves may seem stable, entering into the caves always poses a risk as ice may fall or a cave in might happen.

This is an easy, well maintained trail that leads to ice caves at the base of Big Four Mountain. These caves are carved out by the water and cold air that flows between the mountain peaks. The trail is family friendly, and promotes exploration past its endpoint. However, caution must always be taken.

From the parking lot, you are welcomed by the great Big Four Mountain. There are plenty of signs and even restrooms for those visiting. Because of it's uniqueness and popularity, there are plenty of people that visit the caves, so you won't be alone.

The trail gradually climbs 220 feet of elevation and is adorned with beautiful foliage, wooden, dirt, and gravel walkways, and crosses the South Fork Stillaguamish River. There are a few benches along the trail if you want to take a break for a small snack.

I have gone twice, once in late winter, and again mid summer, and have enjoyed it tremendously. Be ready to use your camera!
