Coming from Reid Harbor: either kayaking or taking a dinghy in from your boat to the beach or dock. If you choose to leave your water transportation on the beach, then you'll see a very clear road/boat launch, stay on this road. If you choose to leave your transportation tied up at the dock then you will add on about a half a mile of distance to your hike. This route takes you through a campground and down some stairs which will eventually lead you to the beach and road. This extra distance is a nice addition because it comes with beautiful views of the harbor. Both the beach and dock come with outhouses available for public use as well as water spigots.
The road is a gravel road meant for cars, however I can almost guarantee you wont see any, the island is small and not home to many residents. The road is all uphill. Follow this road for about a mile, once you reach the top there will be a building, basketball court, swing set and a couple of smaller portable style buildings. This is the islands school building and museum. The museum has been open every time I've gone on this hike and it contains history about the school, its teachers and students over the years. I've only ever seen the school open to the public once.If you continue along the road you will walk past a big grass field, this is the island's airplane landing strip. Continue walking. Eventually there will be a split in the road, there is a sign up pointing you in the correct direction towards the lighthouse, follow that sign. Staying along the road eventually you will begin heading back down hill, along the way there are a couple of lookout points on Lovers Leap (cliffs on the island that you can read about at the lighthouse) of the Haro Strait.Once you reach the lighthouse there is a museum open to the public to read about the history of Turn Point Lighthouse as well as Lovers Leap. There are picnic tables available to enjoy a nice lunch with a beautiful view. I've seen three pods of whales go by Turn Point at once from this lighthouse, not a view you want to miss. I've done this hike upwards of 10 times and every time I do it I enjoy it just as much as the last time.
