Took my Fiance in the month of June before the season opened. Her and I were THE ONLY people besides the residents at the Lake houses on the Lake. 20,000 people go here annually. Paid 75$ for 3 days at the lake, but gave them 100$ to go towards the facility. If you're looking for peace, solitude, beauty, hikes, backpacking, kayaking, or any type of travel this place has it all. You have the choice of choosing a 4-stroke boat to a single kayak. You cannot beat the price and the Gentleman who gave us the boat ride over was extremely friendly and he has knowledge of the whole Lake.

Samantha and I first started with the mile or two hike down the hillside until we reached the telephone. We then called over to the gentleman to come pick us up and he came over with his boat. We then rented a Canoe for 3 days and we headed up the Lake. Samantha and I paddled about 7-10 miles up the Lake to Mcmillan. During our first push on the water the water was so placid the the reflections of the mountains, trees, and rock walls. In the middle of the lake a person can yell anything and hear the echo go ALL the way down the Lake and the echo will be heard about 5-10 times depending on how loud you're. The beauty is unparalleled to anything I have ever seen. Once we made it I set up camp because the lady was too tired to paddle anymore. Had the hammock up, tent ready, fire started, and Lake all to ourselves. My Fiance and I went skinny dipping and walked around our own private island for a few hours which was the most amazing thing in the world because when a person thinks of the word "freedom" I have never felt so free and alive in my life. Had the whole lake to ourselves and not a single worry in the world. I ended up taking my axe and made a fishing pole/spear to try and get us dinner. I swam around the lake and snorkeled and was in search of a fishing hook. I finally find one in the rocks about 20 feet underwater and used fishing line that I brought with us so I could make a pole. Ended up catching a Lake Trout, cleaned it, and fed us. As the day came to an end the STARS were UNBELIEVABLE! I have been out in the Persian Gulf on a deployment on the flight deck launching F-18's and I thought those stars were amazing. Ross Lake was unprecedented to anything I have ever experienced. Shooting Stars all night, sky so clear any person could differentiate a satellite from a plane. The Constellations in full form, Milky Way, and moon. It was pure bliss. Samantha was totally blown away and she told me the romantic meter on this can never be beaten. So, gentlemen who want to take the lady on a great escape, "cough" "cough" just stop reading and go now.

The next day, I woke up early 4AM and took the canoe by myself up to Lighting Creek which was the best idea I think I have ever had. I took the canoe off East from the lake and followed it all the way until the end. I hiked lightning creek trail up to Deolation Peak and didn't spend a lot of time at the top. Had to make it quick to get back to camp because I didn't want to leave the Lady at camp by herself all night since she doesn't like hiking far distances like I do. The 10 to 12 mile canoe ride there and back so about 20-14 miles of canoeing was well worth it. Thankfully I brought enough food for that adventure. Once I got back I just stayed out on the water with Samantha and enjoyed the night and the last day with her and canoed back. Every year and forever will I go to Ross Lake.
