With 6+ waterfalls and a few places where you can swim, White Oak Canyon in Shenandoah National Park is the perfect destination for a hot summer day.

While there is an option to do this hike in a loop, I did it as an out and back hike with some friends. We started at the top from the parking lot, hiked down 4 or so miles following the posts along the trail, went swimming at the pools at the bottom, then went back up the way we came. Best time to go is a nice warm day after it has stormed/rained a lot in the area; this ensures good water levels not only to swim in, but also to make the waterfalls appear more impressive.
