Solitude and incomparable views of the San Juan River Canyon, the "Goosenecks", and Monument Valley.
Muley Point on the southern end of the Cedar Mesa is one of the finest camping (and car camping) sites in North America, towering some 2400' above the San Juan River Canyon (and The Goosenecks State Park) looking south directly into the northern mouth of Monument Valley. It is a breathtakingly beautiful place and easily missed.
To get there from the South, take Highway 163 north from Mexican Hat a few miles and then go left on State Road 261, following the signs for Goosenecks State Park. Instead of turning left into Goosenecks, continue straight until the road winds up the incredible Moki Dugway to the top of Cedar Mesa. At the top of the Mesa go left on the marked, dirt Muley Point Road. It will eventually reach the edge of the Mesa with numerous pull-offs and campsites available. After a rain the road can be muddy and rutty
From the North and the Natural Bridges Natural Monument area, take State Road 95 either towards Natural Bridges if you're coming from the East, or away from Natural Bridges if you're coming from the West, till it inserts with State Road 261 directly south and below Bears Ears. Follow the State Road until it meets Muley Point Road. Go straight instead of left down the Moki Dugway.
Note that in the summer Muley Point, like all of Utah, is very hot during the day.
