This hike has all the awesomeness of the surrounding National Parks with fewer crowds.  Easy in and out and car camping at the base!

This is an awesome hike you can do with the family to an amazing arch in the Moab area and avoid the crowds. It is the one from the famous rope swing video through an arch. You can also camp just below the trail head at Gold Bar campground ($15) right on the Colorado River.

First off this hike is hot, shoot Moab is hot so I usually go in the Spring and Fall. THis way you avoid some of the really touristy tourists and the heat.

To get to the campground and hike:

Take Highway 279 out of Moab and follow it for a few miles.  You will see Gold Bar Campground on the left.  Almost all the camping sites are on the river and are pretty secluded for a pay campground. You really can't go wrong but i reccomend the spots to the left facing the campground.  The Corona Arch trailhead is right across the street.

Keys for the hike:

  • Go in the evenining as the views are amazing and it isnt quite as hot
  • Bring lots of water and possibly a little picnic the hike is only 1.5 miles long but staying hydrated is important
  • Plan to hang out at the arch for a while it is amazing to just chill under
  • You will encounter a slight rope assent and a ladder at one point, nothing serious however
  • You will also see a really cool carin "yard" about halfway up
  • If you are up to it you can scale the arch from the very far right of the arch but be careful scaling up isn't too hard but coming back down is sketchy and really steep
  • If you are an experienced climber there are a few anchor points to toprope the climb
  • You can bring your mutt but they must be leashed
