The trail approaches the arch through a ravine, passing by cliffs, dense forest, and a stream (Kings Branch) en route.

Park at the end of the 15 in the parking area. Walk all the way to the end of the road where you will find the trailhead.  This is rugged New Mexico wilderness so make sure you have proper shoes, hat, and plenty of water. This trail is very close to the Gila Cliff dwellings, which you will not want to miss.

The Missions San Jose-San Juan trail is used for hiking and mountain biking, and is accessible year-round. Dogs are allowed on trail but must be kept on leash. Please avoid these trails at night due to the remoteness of certain areas on the trail.

Campsites here come with a fire ring and picnic table, as well as bathroom and shower access. These sites are particularly recommended for families and large groups. Make a reservation here.
