Looking for a fun/alternative date idea? You can't really go wrong renting a row boat on Stow Lake. You'll have a blast goofing around and awkwardly trying to figure out how to row a boat in a straight line. Pack some snacks and bring a few of your favorite beverages and it will definitely be a day to remember.

This is an awesome stair workout with incredible views of the San Francisco Bay. Lyon Street Steps is actually comprised of two sets of stairs - the bottom set is really steep and a killer workout. The top set is much more gradual and easier to tackle. Run a few laps up both and you'll be feeling it the next day for sure.

This hike is an absolute blast. Like previous reviewers have mentioned, finding your way down to the start of the Left Fork can be a bit confusing at times. Here's a tip: getting there shouldn't require anything too crazy/scary to get down. We got sidetracked twice and both times the route in front of us was a bit sketchier than we imagined it should be for such a popular hike. Once you get down into the canyon, you'll have an amazing time. Note: This hike requires rappelling, so you and your group should have the proper equipment and knowledge.

This is one of Zion's most popular hikes, and for good reason. It's a relatively short hike, but with a big payoff at the top. The last .5 miles also requires hikers to use chains bolted along the route. For most experienced hikers (who are in relatively good shape), this last section of the hike shouldn't be a problem at all. I definitely would not recommend it for really young children. Tip: In the summer, try to get to the trailhead early to beat the crowds and the heat. If you get a late start, expect a bit of a wait along the upper part of the trail. Still, it's an iconic hike and worth checking off of your bucket list.

We hiked it in late November, after the first bit of snow. It was beautiful, but the trail was a bit icy. We took our time and were just fine - would definitely recommend it to anyone.

The yurts are great and the campground is super clean and very well maintained.

One of my all-time favorite places to bodysurf. Just a note: it's for experienced bodysurfers only. Lots of serious injuries occur here every year, so know your limits.

Amazing, up-close views of the bridge. The further you go along Marshall Beach toward the bridge, you're more likely to run into some nude sunbathers.

Bring a jacket. Always seems to be windy along this stretch of coast.

Muir Woods is amazing, especially early in the morning without the crowds.

One of my favorite quick outings when it's foggy or cold out. A really nice alternative to some of the more standard runs in the neighborhood.

Check their website to see which days they're actually open to the public, and try to get there early. It really fills up.

Do this hike, you won't be disappointed. It's at the top of my list for hikes in the Bay Area. The fact that you can hit a fresh water lake with a rope swing on your way to the falls is pretty amazing. Then the falls themselves are so unique. Just make sure to give yourself enough time to get back to your car before it gets dark (or pack a headlamp).

This is a great homebase for a weekend of adventures along the Sonoma coast. Be sure to grab all of your groceries before you get out too close to Salt Point. Not many options nearby and you don't want to get stuck late at night without food/beverages.

Such a cool little spot. This is also a dog friendly beach, so bring you little buddy along.

This hike is a great workout and Cardiac Hill is a butt kicker. It's great to chill out in Mill Valley post-hike too.

The trail splits about halfway into the hike. Stay right for an elevated perspective of the valley. It's just a tad longer, but I it's a nicer view - and you can take the lower trail back to the parking lot.

If you're planning on doing this in the winter months, bring gloves and maybe a thermos of coffee. It's cold and when the wind picks up, you'll be glad that you were prepared.

One of the cooler hikes I've done in the Bay Area. Be careful on the final scramble down to the beach - lots of loose rock, so take your time. Would not recommend it if you're bringing little ones along.

This is a super fun, local adventure that not too many people know about. Try to drop your trap early in the morning and swing by to pick it up in the evening. Or, just hang at the beach and make a day of it. Also, be respectful of the locals who have been crabbing here for years.

Super fun bodysurfing wave. The easiest way in/out is to use the set of stairs near the harbor channel. Take your time though, the bottom ones are pretty slick.

If you've ever been the slightest bit interested in abalone diving, I can't recommend this adventure highly enough. Pam and Tom make abalone diving fun and enjoyable for everyone. Jason, our guide, was the best. He was patient, helpful, and super friendly. You could tell everyone involved was passionate about sharing their love of the ocean with new abalone divers. And the post-dive potluck BBQ was a perfect way to end the day.

There's a Safeway tucked in across the street from the beach at Fulton if you need any last minute supplies.

The underwater tunnel is scary, but definitely fun.
