Walking In The Altmuhltal Nature Park

This short break self-guided walking holiday starts in the spa town of Treuchtlingen. From here, the Altmuhltal Panorama Trail will take you on a panoramic and historical nature trail. The area is rich in fossils and home to the Archaeopteryx fossils (the link in the evolutionary chain that connects birds to reptiles) and you'll also find natural monuments, including the 'Twelve Apostles', steep limestone rocks embedded in juniper heaths. Walking mostly above the River Altmuhl you'll be rewarded with spectacular views along the valley. Staying in medieval towns you will be greeted by castles at the end of some of your walks and can enjoy some of the region's culinary delights from tasty sausage specialties to numerous delicious beers.
