Itinerary

DAY 01: ARRIVAL TO NEGOMBO

You will be welcomed by our representative on arrival at Colombo International Airport and transferred to your selected hotel in Negombo. Take an afternoon city tour of Negombo and return to your hotel for the night stay in Negombo.

DAY 02: NEGOMBO- ANURADHAPURA (169 Km/ Approx. 03 Hrs 30 min Drive)

After breakfast leave for Anuradhapura, enjoy the change in scenery as you make your way from palm-fringed coast to dense forest cover in the interior of the island and take a city tour of this ancient capital. Proceed to your hotel in Anuradhapura for the overnight stay.

DAY 03: ANURADHAPURA – JAFFNA (197 Km/ Approx. 03 Hrs 30 min Drive)

After breakfast, leave for Jaffna and check in to your hotel for the next 2 nights stay. Take an afternoon city tour of Jaffna and discover the culture and traditions in this northernmost city before returning to your hotel for the night in Jaffna.

DAY 04: JAFFNA

After an early breakfast, take a boat tour of the Delft Island, the early start will certainly be worthwhile as you explore this island with coral and limestone constructions. Delft Island is a small and remote island located in the area between the northern part of Sri Lanka and India’s southern state of Tamil Nadu. The island is best known for its population of wild horses left by the Portuguese. In the afternoon, take the boat tour of the beautiful Nagadeepa Island, one of the islands belonging to the cluster of islands in the Palk Bay off the Jaffna Peninsula. The history of Nagadeepa is connected to Buddha’s visit to Sri Lanka in the 6th century B.C. The island, dotted with several Buddhist temples, is of great religious significance and beauty to the Hindus and the Buddhists. Return to your hotel for the night in Jaffna.

DAY 05: JAFFNA – POLONNARUWA (283 Km/Approx. 05 Hrs 15 min Drive)

After breakfast, leave for Polonnaruwa, sit back and take in the changing scenery on this journey and check-in to the hotel of your choice for your stay for the next 2 nights. Take a respite from sightseeing and enjoy some time at leisure. Overnight in Polonnaruwa.

DAY 06: POLONNARUWA

After breakfast take a city tour of Polonnaruwa, explore the ancient city which is another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take a safari at the Minneriya National Park, be on the lookout for herds of Elephants in the afternoon and return to your hotel in Polonnaruwa for the night.

DAY 07: POLONNARUWA - SIGIRIYA – KANDY (146 Km/ Approx. 04 Hrs Drive)

After breakfast, leave for Kandy. En route visit Sigiriya to climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and palace complex (a UNESCO World Heritage site).  Sigiriya Rock Fortress was built by King Kashyapa (473 – 491 A.D). Sigiriya (meaning lion rock) is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70-hectare fortified town. Thereafter, visit the Dambulla rock cave temple, which was built in the 1st century B.C. Dambulla is a world heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceilings is the largest area of paintings found in the world. The caves contain over 150 images of the Buddha of which the largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock and spanning 14 meters. Visit the spice gardens in Matale. See many different types of spices Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. Gardens are open to visitors, a delightful place to stroll in fragrant greenery and learn about nutmeg, pepper vines, clove trees and curry, cinnamon and the precious cardamom. Check-in to the hotel of your choice for the overnight stay in Kandy.

DAY 08: KANDY

Let your interests guide you with your choice of sightseeing this morning. After breakfast, visit Aluvihare Rock Cave Temple (a sacred Buddhist temple dating back to the 3rd century B.C.) or explore the Udawatta Kele Forest Reserve and Sanctuary (a historic forest reserve and home to several giant lianas – woody vines). Return to Kandy for an afternoon city tour; discover the in and out of Kandy as you take this city tour. Thereafter, conclude the day with a cultural dance performance. Head back to your hotel in Kandy for the overnight stay.

DAY 09: KANDY - NUWARA ELIYA (76 Km/ Approx. 2.5 Hrs Drive)

After breakfast, proceed to Nuwara Eliya. Visit a tea plantation and factory sip a cup of Ceylon Tea and learn about the process of tea production. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery as you proceed to your hotel of choice for the overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.

DAY 10: NUWARA ELIYA - HORTON PLAINS – OHIYA - NUWARA ELIYA (39 Km/ Approx. 02 Hrs Drive)

Take a packed breakfast with you as you proceed to Horton Plains (also known as the World’s End), a protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka where one can enjoy amazing panoramic views. Choose the perfect spot for a picnic breakfast as you trek your way from Horton Plains to Ohiya, a rural village in Sri Lanka. Drive back to Nuwara Eliya for the overnight stay.

DAY 11: NUWARA ELIYA - IDALGASHINNA – HAPUTALE (30 Km/ Approx. 01 Hrs 30 min)

Take a packed breakfast with you as you walk via Idalgashinna to the Adisham Bungalow (located close to Haputale) where you will be met by your vehicle, which will take you the remainder of the way to your accommodation in Haputale for the overnight stay.

DAY 12: HAPUTALE – ELLA (31 Km/ Approx. 01 Hrs 30 Min Drive)

After breakfast, explore Haputale on foot before you proceed to Ella for the overnight stay. Continue your exploration on foot in Ella in the afternoon or enjoy the evening relaxing. Take things at your own pace as you explore Haputale and Ella on foot. Overnight in Ella or Haputale.

DAY 13: ELLA – TISSAMAHARAMA (88 Km/ Approx. 02 Hrs Drive)

After breakfast, leave for Tissamaharama and check in to your hotel. Take an afternoon safari of Yala National Park or Bundala National Park. Yala National Park’s terrain is varied, flat plains alternating with rocky outcrops. The vegetation ranges from open parkland to dense jungle. The specialty here is the large numbers of Elephants. Yala is the largest national park in Sri Lanka and is the home of wild elephants, wild boar, wild buffalo, leopard, bear, deer, and crocodiles. Visitors can also see large flocks of migratory and indigenous birds. Return to your hotel in Tissamaharama for the night.

DAY 14: TISSAMAHARAMA – COLOMBO (260 Km/ Approx. 05 Hrs Drive)

After breakfast, take a drive around Tissamaharama (the town is dotted with ancient buildings dating to as early as the 3rd century B.C.) and Kataragama (an important holy pilgrimage town to Buddhist, Hindu, Muslims and indigenous Veda people of Sri Lanka) to visit the places of interest before proceeding to Colombo. Continue drive to Colombo and take a brief tour of Colombo in the afternoon. Proceed to your hotel in Colombo for the night.

DAY 15: AIRPORT DEPARTURE

Your tour ends this morning after breakfast and your transfer will be provided to the airport in time for your departure flight. Alternatively, you can choose to extend this tour with a stay at any of the options available in Sri Lanka or the Maldives.
