Itinerary

Arrive in La Paz

Meet your MT Sobek representative at El Alto airport and transfer to the boutique hotel. Later, take a walking tour that starts with a short visit to the cemetery and continues on to several local markets. The tour concludes at leafy San Pedro Square, home to the well-known San Pedro prison. End the day with an unforgettable ride on the Teleférico cable car for an eagle-eye view of the city and a welcome dinner with the group.

Travel to Uyuni

Take a quick flight from La Paz to Uyuni. Continue south through the dramatic highlands, passing the high Andean valley of Alota and stone formations created by erosion. Continue on through high-altitude valleys until you reach the village of Villamar and check in at Mallku Cueva Hotel.

Explore Natural Wonders in the National Reserve Eduardo Abaroa

Enter the National Reserve Eduardo Abaroa, an expansive protected area reaching up to 17,700' in elevation. Visit Laguna Colorada, a scenic red lake dotted with white borax deposits, and look for roaming flocks of Andean flamingos. Continue to Sol de Mañana geysers, passing Challviri Lagoon with its Polques hot springs. Cross the surrealist-looking high desert of Pampas de Dali to finally reach Laguna Verde. Continue on to the colorful painted desert of Siloli, visiting the bizarre Arbol de Piedra rock formation, before finally reaching Ojo de Perdiz.

Take a Scenic Route to Colchani

Journey to the high valley of Alota. Continue through the highlands, passing the villages of San Agustin and San Juan, and enter the great Uyuni salt flat at Chuvica. Cross the Salar to Isla Incahuasi, a unique island habitat of volcanic rocks and giant cactus. Continue to the village of Colchani, where the locals extract salt, just in time to enjoy a gorgeous sunset. Check into your extraordinary home for the night, where the walls, ceilings, chairs and tables are made of salt.

Visit Sacred Lake Titicaca

Fly to La Paz, then travel through majestic highlands to Copacabana, a beautiful town on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Visit a 17th-century Moorish-style basilica — a well-known Catholic pilgrimage site — and the famous Virgen Morena statue. Afterwards, travel by motor boat to mythical Sun Island, where the Incas believed the sun god was born. Enjoy an aptapi (a typical lunch in the highlands), then boat to the Inca ruins of Pilkokaina. Finally, hike to La Estancia while enjoying a wonderful view of Lake Titicaca.

Take a Boat Trip to Moon Island

Hike down to the village of Yumani, then board a boat for Moon Island — where, according to Inca mythology, Viracocha commanded the rising of the moon — and explore the ruins of Iñak Uyu Inca temple. Afterwards, take a boat ride to Copacabana and then drive back to La Paz. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner folk show at a peña, a restaurant that showcases the singing and dancing of diverse Bolivian cultures.

Depart from La Paz

After breakfast, transfer to La Paz airport and depart on homeward-bound flights.
