Trek across the sweeping white dunes of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, with sand so soft you can make the trip in your bare feet. This vast expanse of dunes looks like an archetypical desert, but the blue and green lagoons that spring up during the rainy season let you stop for a refreshing dip along the way. At the beginning and end of your trip, explore São Luis do Maranhão, also known as "Brazilian Jamaica." Founded by the French in 1612, this vibrant city is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Stop along the way for photo opportunities and to swim in the lagoons. Arrive at the oasis of Baixa Grande, where we will stay with one of the handful of families who live there. Enjoy a local dinner, sunset over the dunes, and spend the night in a local home.

Hike to Queimada

Set out for a second day of barefoot trekking through Lençóis Maranhenses National Park to Queimada dos Britos. Enjoy the hospitality of one of the local families who live in Queimada, who will prepare our lunch and dinner and be our hosts for the evening.
