About this place

Added by Breanne McNitt

River-crossings, jungle vines, and one steep section of switchbacks takes you deep into the jungle to Mae Yen Waterfall.

The trail is best reached via Motorbike from downtown Pai.  The trailhead is located just 3km north east of downtown.  You will follow the road until it turns into dirt, and then continue on this dirt path until you reach a parking area right next to the river (and the first stream crossing you will make).  Park your motorbike, and get ready for the fun hike ahead.

As mentioned you will start the hike by walking through the river, which gives you a taste of what's in store.  A few handmade signs will point you in the right direction, and then the trail becomes very obvious.  You will also pass by a stand where you can buy some bananas for 10bath to enjoy during your hike (just make sure to pack out all trash with you- yes even organic waste).

After the banana stand the hike gets into it's real beauty.  Walking along the river and crossing the river countless times, you make your way straight into the jungle.  Besides watching your footing on the slippery rocks, make sure to let your eyes wander to the details of the jungle.

Before you make it to the waterfall- your final reward- you will have to go up a steep section of switchbacks.  Apparently the river sections gets too dangerous, so instead they built a trail straight up the side of the hill.  It's a short, steep section that'll get your heart beating a bit, and make the reward of the waterfall feel like you actually worked for it.

You will then hear Mae Yen Waterfall before you see it come into view.  A small, shallow, sandy pool is at the base of the waterfall and there are lots of good rocks to sit on while you enjoy the view and maybe some snacks.  Once you've had your fill of the waterfall magic, turn around the way you came and head back out of the jungle.
