Description

Added by Jackson Brock

Max Patch is a bald mountain face located on the North Carolina-Tennessee border. The 4,600 ft mountain, is part of the Appalachian Trail, and is 20 miles from the Great Smoky Mountains which can be seen from the South West horizon.

To reach the top you take exit 7 (Harmons Den), off of I-40, and take a right on Cold Springs road. The road will quickly turn to gravel and you will wind up a 6 mile curvy slope. Once you make it to the parking lot, you can hike up a short but steep hill to the top of the mountain. From the summit, you can enjoy 360 views which make for a perfect place for a picnic or to setup camp. The Appalachian Trail runs both north and south from Max Patch so you are free to hike however far you wish.
