Yosemite Engagement

Hike of a life time

By: Shari Meth + Save to a List

We started training for Half Dome, a hike in Yosemite that is 16.5 miles round trip; but I had no idea what was really in store. The morning started with lots of water and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches at 4:30 AM. We started the hike at Happy Isles trail and as the sun was coming up we were reaching Mist Trail, a trail set right next to the glorious waterfall that is Vernal Fall. As we ascended up the mountains in Yosemite, our trip was documented by my soon to be fiances friend, Tony who happens to be a wonderful videographer (see the video below for the whole story). As we were nearing the top around mile 7 we started on the zig-zag up sub dome, which in my opinion was the most difficult part of the hike, the look on my face must have been nothing short of the culmination of the most fear and excitement wrapped up into one. As we were shimmying up the cables, which is the last 400 meters of the hike to the top of Half Dome, all I could remember was hearing "don't look down."

"We made it!" I proclaimed as we finally reached our destination; the top of a 8,839 ft mountain clearly looking over Yosemite Valley. I laid down, right in the middle of it all. Just staring at the sky full of relief and astonishment. All of a sudden I hear Richard, my fiance call for me and help me up. Before I know it, I am on the highest point on the top of Half Dome looking into his eyes as he gets down on one knee. I couldn't believe. I of course said yes!

Almost two years later, in 50 days from now; we will be saying "I do" in the place where it all started. Yosemite National Park.
