Plan the Trip of a Lifetime

Design the trip of your dreams.

By: Sara Sheehy + Save to a List

Ready for the adventure of a lifetime in 2020, but not keen on joining a group tour? Tap into the knowledge of some of the best adventure guides and travel designers in the world with a custom trip itinerary from MT Sobek.

MT Sobek has been a leader in adventure travel since 1969, so they certainly know a thing or two about creating a trip full of challenging activities, beautiful scenery, comfortable accommodations, and unforgettable experiences.

We caught up with MT Sobek to learn more about their custom trips, and why they are perfect for families, friend groups, and solo travelers alike.

Every Itinerary is Truly Unique

When you book a custom trip with MT Sobek, it'll be exactly that: custom. Each and every journey is unique.

"The majority of trips are family-oriented travel," explains Mark Campbell, the General Manager of Custom Travel with MT Sobek. "But, we also do a lot of trips for solo travelers, couples, and friend groups."

MT Sobek will work with you to craft the perfect trip. After you settle on the right dates for you and/or your group, they'll arrange lodging, activities, knowledgeable tour guides, and other trip logistics.

Most people take advantage of MT Sobek's "self-drive" option, you pick up a rental car at the airport and immediately start following a set itinerary. If "self-drive" doesn't sound like your style, or you don't want to deal with Dad and Grandpa arguing over who gets behind the wheel, don't sweat it! MT Sobek offers fully escorted custom trips, too.

It'll be Active

MT Sobek isn't called the "adventure travel company" for nothing. Your custom trip will be adventurous and active. "Many of our custom trips are within national parks," says Mark, "But we also plan itineraries around gateway cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles."

Want to take a family trip through the "Big 5" parks in Utah, or spend a week exploring Peru? MT Sobek can make that happen for you.

MT Sobek will craft your trip around the activities that you're interested in, with a distinct focus on active experiences. These might include hiking, kayaking, fly-fishing, or canyoneering. MT Sobek can also arrange more relaxed activities, such as cooking classes or wine tasting.

A Challenge for Everyone

When you're traveling with a group, keeping everyone happy can be a struggle. Maybe you want to summit a mountain, but your brother isn't up for the hours of hiking.

Not a problem, says MT Sobek. They might challenge you with a pre-dawn hike to watch the sunrise at elevation, and plan a less grueling hike for other members of the family to take while you're gone.

MT Sobek is all about getting people out of their comfort zone, so everyone can expect to try something new and push their boundaries.

"It's an art and a science to put together a well-timed, well-thought-through, active trip," says Mark. "My staff are all Jedi masters."
