For those without a car stuck in San Francisco, the ability for one to escape from the big city is fairly limited. The nearby Marin Headlands offer a misty refuge for those looking to run on something other than pavement.

Without a car, I often struggle with escaping the business of the city. There are many wonderful parks and recreation areas, but such options are often crowded and small.

From wherever you are in the city, find your way to Golden Gate Park.. I took a $6 Lyft ride up to Crissy Field from my home. Then I ran about 2.5 miles up to and across the Golden Gate Bridge to Vista Point. From here I crossed the street and found the beginning of the SCA trail. The trail winds around the ridge offering a beautiful view (often shrouded by Karl the Fog) of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. Once around the ridge, the trail begins to take you into the heart of the headlands free from the noisy city. I took a left down the Coastal Trail and ended up at the Marin Headlands Visitor Center where I found a nice gift shop with helpful maps and a water fountain.

I ran and walked back the way I came. It was a great way to spend my Sunday.
