The Cruickshank Trail to Upper Cruickshank Camp is a 5.2 mile out and back hike in Los Padres National Forest, near Big Sur. This is a great day hike option or an overnight for those interested in backpacking.
Park on the shoulder of Cabrillo Highway and begin your ascent! Once the trail turns inland, you can hike down to a river for a break by the rushing water (this is a good place to refill waters - don't forget a pump or a filter). Once you get to Upper Cruikshank, descend down to the river and find an amazing campsite at Villa Creek.
You will be rewarded for your ascent efforts with absolutely beautiful views of the ocean. Watch for Condors and poison oak! Dogs are allowed on this trail on a leash. The trail remains open year-round, and wildflowers are abundant in the spring.
