Description

A well-known surfer town at the Peruvian coast offers great surf and a pleasant beach vibe.

Huanchaco beach is a very consistent surf spot with a great left hand break next to the pier. It can get crowded, especially on weekends when the locals are coming from the neighboring towns, but the vibe is very nice and chilled.

If you're looking for slightly smaller waves, stay right of the pier, but be aware of the rocks in the water. If you have water shoes, these might be a good idea. The water here is getting pretty cold, a 3:2 or 4:3 wetsuit is recommended.

During lay days, there is the impressive archaeological site Chan Chan a short bus ride away as well as the ancient ruins Huaca del Sol y del Luna just south of Trujillo, the third largest city in Peru.
