The Lewis & Clark Discovery Trail in Seaside, Oregon is a well-marked, moderately difficult hiking trail. Spanning approximately 12.33 miles, the trail offers a variety of terrain, from sandy beach to forested paths. The trail is named after the famous explorers, Lewis and Clark, and follows part of their historic route. The trail begins at the Seaside Promenade and continues south, passing by the Salt Cairn, a notable landmark. It then winds through the forest, offering views of the Necanicum River. The trail also features a unique suspension bridge and a boardwalk section through a wetland area. Hikers should be prepared for a few steep sections and some uneven ground. The trail is well-maintained, but can be muddy in places, especially after rain. It's recommended to wear sturdy footwear and bring water and snacks. The trail is open year-round, but the best time to hike is in the spring or fall when the weather is mild.
