This loop provides a full tour of the beauty of the amazing rock formations at Smith Rock State Park. An uphill climb at the beginning leads to a vista overlooking the park and a gradual descent and riverside trail complete the loop.
Starting at the parking lot, head down the Canyon Trail into the park. At the bottom of the canyon, cross the bridge and turn right on Wolf Tree Trail. Continue on this trail as it follows the river and then begins to climb, eventually intersecting with Burma Road.
Take a right onto Burma Road and follow this long uphill section as it switchbacks its way to the top.
Once at the top, there are views of the entire park below. At this point, look for a trail/sign for the Summit Trail heading to the left. Take this left and begin a switchback-filled descent. With plentiful high desert scenery and occasional spur trails to vista points, the trail gradually descends until views of the river, Monkey Face and the entire backside of the park are seen.
The trail then intersects with the River Trail. Continue on the River Trail which loops around the tip of the rock formation and returns you to the bridge. Take a right and cross the bridge and climb your way up and back to the parking lot.
