Exploring the Willamette National Forest

Lane County, Oregon

Description

Added by Gabriel Gonzales

Beautiful scenery all around from the bright blue water to the tall green trees that surround it.

The bottom trail head is located about 1 miles east of McKenzie Bridge on Hwy. 126. Look for a turnout and parking area behind a guardrail. There is a sign in the middle of the parking area that says "McKenzie River National Recreation Trail". This is where the McKenzie River Trail Shuttle picks up riders and takes them to the top of the trail just above Clear Lake.

There are 11 parking areas scattered along the length of the trail.

This trail begins at an elevation of 3,200 feet feet 2 miles above Clear Lake and ends at an elevation of 1,450 feet and meanders along the banks of the McKenzie River about a mile east of the town of McKenzie Bridge.

The trail is part of the National Recreation Trails system and provides many opportunities for camping, fishing, photography, exploring, and wildlife viewing. Portions of the trail above Scott Creek also travel through part of the National Wild and Scenic River system, which was designated on the upper McKenzie in 1988.
