A moderate hike rewarded by steaming hot water and beautiful pools overlooking the river. Truly a winter wonderland.

Follow your GPS or your map heading to Umpqua Hot Springs. Park when you get to a shut gate; in February, it will probably be a little icy, and especially slushy, so park as close as you can. This gate is the start of the road to the hot springs, which is closed because of snow. It's a 2 mile hike to the trailhead. From the trailhead it's another .6 miles to the hot springs. FYI: it's a steep climb up toward the end of the trail-- and a slippery one.

Snow shoes should be used before March and then booting it will be fine. Use some waterproof boots if you can, there will still be inches of the snow on the ground.

On a winter morning, you may find yourself being the only person(s) at the hot springs, like I did. This is rare, because these hot springs are extremely popular in the hotter months. Having your pick of the pools is so nice. The hottest pool there is behind the shelter and it's the first one on the top right. Warning: you may break a sweat.
