When you’re stuck in an office 40+ hours per week, there’s nothing better than getting lost in the woods away from the phone, from internet, from social media. So for the easter long weekend, we decided to head out to Oregon. The plan was to camp in the forest for 3 nights. First visiting the coast, and then moving towards the mountains. At Cannon beach we went to the Ecola state park view point, but instead of hanging around with the elks, we decided to trail into the park, there were signs saying that the trail had an emergency shut down, but that didn’t stop us from going deeper. We found a sweet spot, laid on the grass, sun shining down. It was pretty secluded, I took my top off, and I never felt so FREE. I should do this more often, maybe start a new trend? We kept going trying to reach india beach, but at some point the trail was too overgrown and it was impossible to get through without a machete. So we turned around & went back.

We found 2 secluded camping spots near mount hood. I mean who camps at a campground with families and children around them? yikes…For anyone who’s been to Oregon, its hard to find a spot to camp just off the HWY since a lot of the roads are closed off to the logging companies, it was a bit of a challenge finding a decent spot. But of course, I am the queen of finding shady places to sleep, so the first was what looked like an abandon camp site, by the “” summit. Or maybe people aren’t dumb enough to camp out beginning of April when it still gets to -1 or 2 degrees at night. This place was pretty sweet, no one was up there except for us which added to the whole “be one with nature” mentality that I was craving so badly in the last few weeks.

The second spot was by the a lake, there was a few other campers out there, but the camping ground was large enough to not feel crowded. This camping ground is fucking awesome. There’s a lake for swimming, trails for motorbiking, fishing & more. The only thing I can complain about is the weather. It was too damn cold to enjoy any of it. So a piece of advice to the folks who don’t like the cold, don’t go in April, or even may, I would wait until June or at least until the weather at night is sure to hit at least 10 degrees.

I think I am sick of waterfalls by now. Oregon has a lot to chose from, but when you’re limited on time, you gotta play favourites. Here are the ones we have visited & my opinion on each.

Punchbowl falls & Metlako fallsThe hike is beautiful. Its not too short & not too long. You get to see 3 waterfalls. The first one, Metlako Fallls, is quiet far away so you don’t get to experience it as you should, up close & personal. The second one, is smaller and is part of punchbowl falls. Punchbowl falls is a little mysterious, you can’t quiet see the waterfalls unless you walk down the rocks and try to not fall in the water. But its surrounded by giant rocks and you only get to see a glimpse which makes you crave to get a little closer.

Multnomah FallsThis waterfall is just off the highway and you can easily see it without the hike. To be honest this one was my favourite. It is so majestic and powerful. If you walk up to the bridge, and stand alone, its loud and you can hear the force of the water against the rocks. I have this thing for exploring when it gets darker out, it adds to the quietness & loneliness of the forest. We got to this waterfall when it was getting dark out, so it was nice to be alone on the bridge with no one around.

Lower Oneonta Falls & Triple FallsThis one is worth the short hike. You get to stand in a cave underneath the waterfall, & you don’t get to do that often. Triple Falls is quiet far, and there is landslide so to get to it so be prepared to risk your life (just kidding). But seriously it is a challenge to hike over the landslide, and its not fun when you’re doing it in the pouring rain.

If I had to be picky & could only choose 2 waterfalls to see I would say go for the Multnomah & The Lower Oneonta Falls. They were by top two.
