Three Sisters Wilderness Weekend - South Sister Summit Climb & Camp

The South Sister hike is quite strenuous (or maybe it is because we were packing a lot of weight), but is doable by those determined. This hike is classified as difficult, taking you 12 miles roundtrip and gaining 4900 feet in elevation. This hike can be done without any technical gear, as there is a trail that leads all the way to the summit.

You will start out at the Devil's Lake trailhead off of Cascade Lakes Highway, and travel 1/4 mile until you cross the highway and continue onward to the sister. From here, it is pretty much gains with not much relief until you get to the open fields, which give you views of Mt. Bachelor and surrounding peaks. After some relief, the trail begins to climb again, pretty straight up all the way to the summit. Summer months mean you will be dealing with a lot of scree, so make sure you have good footwear.

There are a few good spots to camp at the summit with great shelter, you can also camp at the lake below the summit which is what we did. Either way, the views will not disappoint you.
